It wasn’t the most conventional film title, but it has managed to inspire a sequel for Sony Pictures Animation (Arthur Christmas) with the upcoming release of the computer animated comedy, Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 2. Bill Hader, Anne Farris and James Caan will all be returning to the voices of their characters and this time they’ll be joined by Kristen Schaall (Bob’s Burgers).
Following the food related weather disaster of the first film, Flint Lockwood, voiced by Bill Hader (Turbo), has found a new place for himself as a real scientific inventor. With an invitation from fellow inventor and personal idol, Chester V – played by comedian Will Forte – to join The Live Corp Company things begin to look like they’re on the up for Flint and friends.
However, it isn’t long before the events of the past return to haunt him as it turns out that the machine he invented in the first film to turn water into food has started to run a mock again. Instead of raining giant tornadoes of spaghetti and meatballs, it’s started to mutate the food it regurgitates creating food and animal cross bread beasts called foodimals like the cheese burger spiders, tacodiles, shrimpanzees, hippotatomuses and bananostriches.
Ann Farris (I Give It A Year) plays Flint’s lady friend love interest, Sam Sparks, a weather intern who was lucky enough to study some of the weirdest meteorological phenomena ever seen in the first film. James Caan picks up his role as Flint’s dad, Tim, and Jessica Schaall plays newcomer, Barb, a talking orang-utan with a human brain and a penchant for heavy makeup.
Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 2 is due for a release date in UK cinemas on the 25th October 2013. It’s being released in the US four weeks earlier than in the UK with a date of the 27th September officially announced by Sony Pictures Animation.
