Cats film DVD, Blu-ray, digital, rental and 4K Ultra HD release date UK

Cats film DVD, Blu-ray, digital, rental and 4K Ultra HD release date UK

With an all-star cast and long stage history behind it the Cats film DVD, Blu-ray, digital, rental and 4K Ultra HD UK release date (details below) should be on a fair few musical hitlists. The reviews for the film have been less than kind, but that probably won’t put off the die-hard Cats fans that just want to watch James Corden and Judi Dench scampering around in full cat regalia ad infinitum, which you can get a peak at in the trailer at the bottom of the page.

If you’ve already seen and loved the film and you’re planning on buying either the DVD, Blu-Ray, digital or 4K version of the film you might be wondering what all the fuss is about in terms of the critical response to the Cats movie. The general gist is that the visuals and creative concept led the film down badly and the performances fail to live up to expectations with the minor exception of Taylor Swift.

Wherever you stand on the film, one thing is for certain, that it managed to pull together a big name cast list. In addition to Dench, Corden and Swift, Cats also stars Idris Elba, Sir Ian McKellen, Jeniffer Hudson, Rebel Wilson and Jason Derulo, as well as ballerina Francesca Hayward in her first big-screen movie role.

The other thing to take into account is that an updated version of the film is in the offing and will undoubtedly be in place in time for the DVD, Blu-ray and digital release date in 2020. It replaced the current version of the film in cinemas soon after it came out, so if you hated the visuals in the trailer or the initial film release there could be some improvements. How far they go to fix the film is up for debate, but it’s hard to imagine that they’ll be able to overturn much of the negative reaction in all fairness.

DVD, Blu-ray, 4K, iTunes or digital rental in the UK?

The Cats film DVD and Blu-ray UK release date is expected in the first few weeks of April 2020, so it should be out in time for the Easter, which is Sunday the 12th April 2020. Despite the negative reviews, it should still be released on 4K UHD, especially with the efforts that have been taken to change the visual style of the film, but it’ll be very surprising if it comes out on 3D Bly-ray.

The first opportunity to buy the film will, as ever, be on the digital release, which will see the film available from iTunes, Amazon, PS4 and Xbox ONE in the UK at the end of March 2020. The HD versions of the digital release should include special features, but we’ll update you with more details as they become available.

The digital rental will be out on the same as the DVD and Blu-ray, but won’t feature any of the extras.

Runtime and digital file size

The live-action purr-fest has a runtime of 1 hour and 50 minutes. This will still give it a digital file size of around 4.4GB at 1080p HD, and 1.75 GB in standard definition.

Age rating and parents guide

The age rating is U for Universal in the UK from the British Board of Film Classification.

The parents guide notes include very mild threat, rude humour, and language, however, reviews have mentioned that Cats is a movie that shouldn’t be seen by kids, so it’s your call if you want to check it out yourself in advance.

Cinema release date

The cinematic Cats film release date took place on Friday 20th December 2019, which put it firmly in place as the alternative to Star Wars The Rise Of Skywalker for Christmas and New Year viewing. However, the bad reviews have already resulted in poor performance at the box office, which meant that the film has fallen well short of the number 1 spot.

The culmination of the Skywalker saga didn’t exactly light up the boards in terms of its own reception with both film critics and Star Wars fans, so it’s been a troubled time for the two big Holiday 2019 films.
