Captain America Brave New World Age Rating, UK Release Date and All Trailers

Captain America Brave New World Age Rating, UK Release Date and All Trailers

Captain America Brave New World has a pretty big job ahead of it when the release date comes around next year. The trailers have already teased Red Hulk, so Marvel is clearly taking the weight of expectations seriously, but could this alter the normal run of things for the UK and US age rating.

The maniacal incarnation of The Incredible Hulk may be similar to Bruce Banner’s big green machine, but he dials things up to 11 in terms of murderous intent. You can read more about the potential of this in the certification section below, but either way it turns out, Captain America 4 is going to be a huge indicator for the future of the MCU.

You’ve only got to look at the likes of Venom to see that a higher age rating can work well for superhero movies, albeit with an anti-hero lead. It was a similar story with Joker, despite the poor results for the sequel, but Marvel might have left things too late to swing for the fences with Brave New World.

Captain America has always performed well at the box office, but that was with Steve Rogers behind the shield. We’re big fans of the Falcon, but the character hasn’t had the kind of story to lean into the plot progression, so all bets are off on this one.

What is the Captain America Brave New World UK & US release date

As things stand, Captain America Brave New World has a UK and US release date set for Friday the 14th of February 2024. That puts it squarely in the Valentine’s Day pocket, so it could be the perfect date night movie for Marvel fan couples or singles looking to get away from the onslaught of heart-shaped hard-sells.

The release date is also close to the mid-term break, so if it goes on to pick up some strong reviews then it could do well during the mini holidays. We’ve had a very mixed bag of MCU films in recent years, so the jury’s out on Brave new world until it comes out.

Tracking forward from the theatrical run, we should get a Home Premiere / Early access streaming release date some time in March 2025. This should mean that it’ll be available to watch at home before Easter, which is towards the end of April next year.

While this should be the case for both the UK and US markets, the norm is for early access rental to be available earlier in America than in Britain. However, Captain America Brave New World is a Disney film, so it will inevitably come out on Disney+. The streaming channel usually chooses dates based on the performance of a film on the big screen, so if it does well, it could have a longer gap before it airs. That means that it could be anything between May and the end of summer 2025. For example, Avatar 2 came out in December before it arrives on Disney+ in June the following year. However, The Marvels had just a 3 month gap.

The Captain America 4 DVD and Blu-ray release date could also depend on the success at the box office. It’ll be out in the US earlier then in the UK, but even with a troubled performance it should be at least a couple of months, so we’re looking at after Easter, but we’ll keep you posted here.

Captain America Brave New World UK and US age rating certificate latest

As things stand, the Captain America Brave New World age rating hasn’t been confirmed yet for either the UK or the US. However, there’s a lot to go on in terms of the likely certification based on previous Marvel films, which are usually rated 12 in the UK and PG-13 in the US.

However, there are rare variations on this with Venom The Last Dance getting a 15 age rating in the UK and PG-13 in the US. It was a similar story with Deadpool and the Wolverine, but with an R certification in America, so the addition of Red Hulk into the mix could mean we get a change from the usual run of things in the MCU.

The trailers (see below) hint at a similar age rating to previous Captain America films, but we haven’t seen how destructive Red Hulk is going to be. He’s only teased at the very end of the trailer catching Cap’s shield and throwing it into the ground, so we’ll need to see more to know more.

If we were calling the shots, we’d pitch it as a 15/R rating and make big red about as savage as they come to deliver real impact, but the likelihood of this happening is low.

More international age rating certificates:

Australia – Captain America Civil War was rated M in Australia, meaning it’s not recommended for under 15s.

Canada – Civil War: Rated PG for most provinces

New Zealand – Previous film: M

Runtime

As with the age rating, the Captain America Brave New World runtime is currently to be determined. Looking at the previous films in the series, they’ve gotten progressively longer with The First Avenger clocking in at just over 2 hours and Civil War twenty minutes longer. Taking this into account, we’re probably looking at a runtime of between 2 and 2.5 hours long for the 4th movie.

Story

Captain America Brave New World picks up with Sam Wilson as the new Captain America just after the events of the Disney+ show, Falcon and the Winter Soldier. You can see in the trailer that he gets called in to see the president, newly elected Thaddeus Ross (Harrison Ford), but things don’t go that well and he finds himself up against an international plot of epic proportions.

If you’re wondering who the main villain is going to be, that’s still a little in the air, as there are a number of contenders in the mix for Captain America 4. Firstly, there’s Giancarlo Esposito character, Sidewinder, who could be pulling all of the strings, but equally, there’s also the possibility that Red Hulk could be the biggest threat to Sam.

The story also ties in with 2008’s The Incredible Hulk, as well as the She Hulk TV series, as Banner’s DNA is clearly used to create Red Hulk. Thaddeus Ross is the human incarnation of the new addition to the gamma-pumped team, so it’s going to be interesting to see how much control he has over his rosier incarnation.

The final potential main villain is Leader, which is the new name for the returning character of Professor Samuel Sterns from The Incredible Hulk. You might remember that he got Hulk blood in his brain at the end of the film and started to go a bit MODOK, so he could well be the true main villain.

Cast & Crew

The Captain America Brave New World cast will be led by Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson / Captain America, reprising his new role from Falcon and the Winter Soldier. He’ll be joined by Harrison Ford as President Thaddeus Ross / Red Hulk, Giancarlo Espoito as Seth Voelker / Sidewinder and Time Blake Nelson as Samuel Sterns / Leader.

The cast also includes Carl Lumbly who is back as super soldier, Isaiah Bradley, who first appeared in Falcon and The Winter Soldier. Plus there’s word of Liv Tyler returning as Betty Ross, Thaddeus’ daughter and former love interest of Bruce Banner.

Captain America Brave New World has been directed by Julius Onah, who makes his debut in the MCU. His filmography includes sci-fi horror, The Cloverfield Paradox, and dramatic thriller, Luce. It’s hard to interpret how this is going to translate over to Captain America Brave New World, so there’s going to be a lot riding on the reviews, which makes it a bit of a risky move at this stage. However, it was a similar story with Ryan Coogler for Black Panther and Jon Favreau for Iron Man, so we’ll see how it all comes together.

The screenplay was written by Malcolm Spellman and Dalan Musson, who were the writing force behind Falcon and the Winter Soldier. The show had mixed reviews, so again we’re into risky territory, and their back catalogue is light on big screen success, so the only real cinematic banker is Harrison Ford (and even that didn’t save the Star Wars sequel trilogy or Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny).

Captain America Brave New World trailer

Despite all of this, we’re trying to keep a positive outlook on Captain America Brave New world, and in all fairness, the trailer does a decent job of building anticipation. It covers the setup well and the teaser for Red Hulk at the end is decent, if a little on the cautious side, so hopefully we get to see a little more in the second trailer.

It’s hard not to expect a lot from Red Hulk, but he looks like a red version of the Mark Ruffalo Hulk from the Avengers movies. Maybe he’ll be a bit bigger in the film and have the kind of Cap-smashing might that will help to cement the film in MCU history.

Anthony Mackie looks far more assured in the trailer compared to his performance and story arc in Falcon and the Winter Soldier. For us, it sent the character backwards from his confidence in the movies, so it’s good to see him being more El Capitano. If he can carry this through and is given a strong story to work with then this could deliver the kind of resurgence that he deserved in the first place.
