Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3

It’s that time of year again. The media storm, crazy speculation and battling banter from gaming competition from the likes of EA is all about to be silenced with the full release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, and if the computer games industry reviews that have been flooding the internet for the past week or so are anything to go by the silence with be of Apocalyptic proportions.

Released today (8th November 2011) it launches a new chapter in the Modern Warfare series that returns to some of the simpler magic of the original game and mixes it with the addition of Special Ops inspiration. However, the review aggregation on sites like Amazon seem to show opinions split on the game with some absolutely loving it, but others not feeling the development needed to take the game to the next level. The average customer review on the day of launch was just 3 stars out of 5, which doesn’t necessarily bode well.

Available on the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Wii and with a unique game made for the Nintendo 3DS, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has the usual campaign, co-op and multiplayer modes as in previous games, with the latter 2 blazing fire online. Though the campaign is still reputed to be slightly short, it’s a little longer than Black Ops, so a step up on that score. The multi-player and co-op modes are just as frenetic as in previous games, favouring more close knit quarters from the 1st Modern Warfare game, as opposed to the more sprawling maps of MW2.

Survival has been added to the co-op mode putting you and a team against a never ending stream of enemies that develop in difficulty and tactical skills the longer you survive. In terms of the multiplayer mode, the big change is that killstreaks has been amended to pointstreaks meaning that streaks aren’t just based on enemy deaths, but lots of other points related skills like planting bombs.

For existing lovers of COD MW, Modern Warfare 3 might not contain enough new content to keep you happy. However, for gamers that haven’t yet scoped their first head shot in a Call of Duty suit, MW3 is probably one of the best places to start.
