Call of Duty: Ghosts preview and dog gameplay trailer

Call of Duty Ghosts dog character RileyCall of Duty: Ghosts will be the first COD game to be released specifically with the 8th generation games consoles in mind. While Call of Duty Black Ops II made it to the Nintendo Wii U at the end of last year in brilliant detail, it wasn’t created with all of the new tech released so with the Xbox ONE and PS4 on the way there’s a lot of expectation on Ghosts to genuinely blow our tiny little game-loving, scope toting minds.

It’s been confirmed for both the big two upcoming consoles as well as being released on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Microsoft Windows with a release date of the 5th November 2013. It’s not impossible that it will see a Nintendo Wii U release in time too, as Call of Duty Black Ops II did so well, but it hasn’t been 100% confirmed as of yet.

From the look of the many trailers that Activision have distributed so far the visuals and graphics are going to be stunning. It still looks like they’re still not quite there in terms facial animation in cut scenes, but there’s definitely been an improvement since BOII and the game as a whole looks amazing.

The storyline mode of the game is set in the future in a world in which the US has become far less than the global power that it is now. With much stronger enemies its military has been forced to turn into Ghosts, where their presence is felt, but not seen. The storyline features some amazing slow motion game-play sections that will blow your mind. Check out the trailer below to see for yourself.

In terms of the general gameplay, we’re all pretty familiar with the first person shooter style that Call of Duty games are built on, so we’re going to focus on what’s new. Firstly, and combining in with the impressive visuals, Ghosts is set to introduce underwater gameplay to the mix and it looks like it could be a very cool addition. While you’ll be a lot slower under water in terms of movement, there will be the added tension of underwater environments to compensate.

The other significant addition to the series is the use of a dog called Riley as a playable character, letting you unleash him on enemies sneaking up on your location to create a distraction for long enough for you to get the shots off to take them out cleanly. You can also send him off as a scout to scan an area to gauge the best way to attack or get around them using a camera attached to Riley’s pack.

When you finally sneak up to an enemy you can set the dog into attack mode and rip their little throats out. Riley can also let out a bark to draw enemies closer before going for the jugular once again. It’s a cool feature that adds a whole new dimension to the engrossing nature of the Call of Duty games.

Multiplayer features will be even more vast than has previously been the case, but more importantly the way you play in multiplayer mode will be seriously improved from previous installments. Added flexibility in movement will make the game feel more like you’re in control of a person instead of a walking view finder as you’ll be able to slide, lean around corners, and interact with the gaming environment in a way that will immerse you into the gameplay like never before.

Call of Duty: Ghosts already looks set to take the first person shooter concept up a notch, which must be a big challenge for the COD developers as they put together their annual releases. However, it looks like they’ll be successful once again. We can’t wait to don our wetsuits, shake out the leash for our dog Riley and blast the shizznits out of anyone foolish enough to cross our paths. We’re not soldiers, we are Ghosts!
