British Sea Power, Let The Dancers Inherit The Party album release and 2017 tour dates

British Sea Power, Let The Dancers Inherit The PartyBritish Sea Power will be firing up the naval armada once again this year with its sixth studio album, Let The Dancers Inherit The Party. To stoke the boilers and hand out some Fisherman’s Friends, the band will also be putting in a short series of gigs as part of a seven date UK tour in April, so you’ll be able to hear it all live not too long after the album launch.

The six Brightonian band mates have had a few of years out of the recording studio, following 2013’s Machineries Of Joy. However, with two soundtrack albums along the way – From The Sea To The Land Beyond in 2013 and Happiness in 2015 – plus the brass band reshuffle of previous songs on Sea Of Brass in 2015, it’s been full steam ahead as usual for BSP.

Album release date

Let The Dancers Inherit The Party will be body popping it’s way to a record store near you in March 2017 with a release date of the 31st. It’ll be available on CD, digital download and 12″ vinyl.

There’s also a deluxe CD box-set, which you can get from the British Sea Power store, along with t-shirt and mug bundles. It includes a couple of extra CDs packed with demos and recordings that didn’t make it on to the main album release, as well as a “commemorative patch” (we’re not sure if this is for your eye, but we hope so) and a behind-the-scenes booklet of pics, artwork and text by author, and former BSP manager, Roy Wilkinson.

Singles

There’s just the one single out to date, Bad Bohemian, which you may well have heard on the radio if you’ve been listening to BBC Radio 6 Music recently. It’s an instant alt-rock hit with hooked, slightly hushed vocals from lead singer Jan Scott Wilkinson, stylish synth landscapes from Phil Sumner on keyboard and roving jangle riffs from Martin Noble on guitar. Take a listen in the audio stream below.

First impressions

There’s just the one single to go on, but we’re expecting a quality album release from British Sea Power with Let The Dancers Inherit The Party. Bad Bohemian sets things up well and when you look back on the band’s 17-year history, there’s a lot of quality threaded through it all.
