Warner Brothers has just released the full Blade Runner 2049 trailer having teased the arrival three days ago with a 15-second teaser trailer. They give us our first significant glimpse of how the film has come together and you can see both in the videos below.
The eagerly anticipated sequel to the 1979 dark sci-fi classic has already picked up a hell of a lot of media hype with the cast including Harrison Ford back as Blade Runner Rick Deckard. The arrival of the full-length trailer ramps this up significantly and starts the countdown for the release date on the 6th October 2017.
The short teaser trailer for the film builds on the initial teaser that landed at the end of 2016 introducing Ryan Gosling as LAPD Officer K in a scene that sees him meeting Harrison Ford’s character for the first time. The video (below) gives us much more to go on and though it’s only a short preview of the full trailer, things already looked very promising.
Blade Runner 2049 teaser trailer:
The cinematography in the 15 second teaser trailer consists of some of the coolest sci-fi imagery we’ve seen in a while, possibly even since the very first Blade Runner landed back in 1982. The shot of Ryan Gosling with a blood-soaked head is reminiscent of the rooftop scene between Deckard and Roy Batty at the end of the first film and the opening scene on the streets feels as real as a walk home in the dark in any busy city.
There are a few acid-soaked sand storm shots with the most impressive leading up to an isolated buildings. There’s also giant futuristic superstructures, a quickfire gunfight with Officer K, a freaky science tech lab setup, cool flying cars and a slightly wisened Rick Dechard (Harrison Ford) taking a few steps on camera in a shot that was seen in the previous teaser trailer.
It also gives us our first shots of Robin Wrights in the upcoming film release as she drops a cold line about order in the futuristic world she seems to command. Her role is still undisclosed as of yet, but she’s clearly going to be playing a central character in the film, but the arrival of the full trailer below hasn’t elaborated much on this.
There’s more than enough in the two trailer videos to give fans a decent taste of the dark sci-fi flick that will be coming out later this year. However, perhaps the biggest reveal in the full Blade Runner 2049 trailer is the presence of Jared Leto looking pretty menacing. He didn’t really cover himself in glory in Suicide Squad, so for us the pressure is on, but from the look of the video he could be much more impressive this time around.
