Black Panther 2 Wakanda Forever age rating certificate, release date & more

Black Panther 2 Wakanda Forever age rating certificate, UK release date and parents guide

Marvel cranked up through the gears in 2022 with another series of huge films, which culminated in the Black Panther 2 Wakanda Forever release date at the end of 2022 (full details below). Here’s everything you need to know about the film, including the age rating certificate in our parents guide, details on the plot and cast, and runtime.

It’s hard to talk about a new Black Panther film without mentioning the passing of Chadwick Boseman, who died from Cancer a year after his final performance as the character in Avengers Endgame. He’d made the role his own, so it was always going to be tough for Marvel to bring in a replacement of any kind.

If that isn’t enough, the film also needed to write in and explain the death of T’Challa in a way that made sense for the continuation of the story. Thankfully, it does all of this with a lot of grace, and honors Chadwick Boseman’s impeccable job in his previous performances, continuing the legacy that he has left behind.

Story

The story for the sequel sees Queen Ramonda, Shuri, Nakia and Okeye coming to terms with the death of King T’Challa as Wakanda suffers from the interventions of world powers. This goes on to instigate the attention of Namor – AKA the Sub-Mariner – who isn’t all that friendly.

He’s an anti-hero in the comics, so his motives are going to be a little more complicated than your standard villain. It’s linked to the death of T’Challa and perceived threats to his own kingdom, so there’s a lot of depth to the character in the film, building on what Ryan Coogler started with Killmonger last time around.

Cast

The Black Panther Wakanda Forever cast sees the return of Lupita Nyong’o as Nakia, Danai Gurira as leader of Wakanda’s Dora Milaje military intelligence, Okeye, and Leticia Wright (Death on the Nile) as T’Challa’s younger sister and science wiz Shuri. Other returnees to the cast are Winston Duke as M’Baku, Angela Bassett as T’Challa’s mum and Martin Freeman as Everett K. Scott.

Dominique Thorne plays new addition Riri Williams / Ironheart, a young scientist that invents a suit that’s on par with the work of Tony Stark. Finally, Tenoch Huerta plays Namor, King of Atlantis, and Michael B. Jordan (Creed III) returns for a brief cameo as Killmonger.

We’ll update you with more details on the cast as they’re confirmed.

Black Panther 2 Wakanda Forever UK release date

The Black Panther Wakanda Forever UK release date was November 11th, 2022, despite some initial concern about plans with the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. It was previously reschedule by Marvel Studios from the 8th July 2022, which switched it from a summer blockbuster to a winter hit.

The original date was announced with its Phase 4 teaser back in May 2021, although the official Marvel.com page for the film always had it down for the November 2022 release. Either Marvel was hedging its bets or it was just a simple mistake in a very busy year.

With the November 2022 release, it went on to come out on DVD and Blu-ray in February 2023. It’s first home media launch was digital purchase with early access a little earlier in February, when it was also made available on Disney+.

Age rating and parents guide

There was already a lot to take from the age rating for the first film. It also had a certification of 12, which has been the norm for Marvel films throughout the Cinematic Universe stretching all the way back to Iron Man in 2008.

In terms of the parents guide, you can expect moderate superhero violence to be the main point of concern. If you’ve seen the first film then you will already have a good idea about what to expect from BP 2, but if you haven’t it’s a good idea to catch it ahead of the 2022 release.

Runtime

As with the age rating, the runtime for Black Panther 2 Wakanda Forever was confirmed on the approach to the release date. It is 2 hours and 43 minutes long, so it’s pretty chunky. The first film was a little over 2 hours long, but with so much story to tell it’s easy to see why the sequel has such a lengthy runtime.

Trailer

The Black Panther 2: Wakanda Forever trailer doesn’t give too much away with only fleeting glimpses of Tenoch Huerta as Namor. However, it does seem to show at least the potential for a new Black Panther to continue the torch bearer role for the character.

It could just be a historical shot, but the slender arm sort implies otherwise. Check out our full breakdown of the contenders in terms of who the new Black Panther could be in Wakanda Forever.
