Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson stepped onto the big screen as Black Adam earlier in 2022, so here’s the latest on the UK DVD, Blu-ray and digital release date. It’s one of the lesser known DC Comics characters and he’s an anti-hero to boot, but it looks like Johnson has landed well in the role.
Whether or not it’ll be enough to spin off into its own series of films will depend on it’s success at the box office, along with the overall strategy of DC Films and Warner Bros. With the recent cancellation of Batgirl and controversy surrounding both The Flash and Aquaman 2 it’s possible that there will be a clean slate being polished somewhere.
AdvertisementBlack Adam might just find itself caught up in the middle of this, which would be a shame for everyone involved, but following the release there was some end-credits excitement to add to the potential of a return. This has given us the potential of a crossover with other parts of the DC Extended Universe, so it’s going to be interesting to see what comes next.
This will also have an impact on the DVD, Blu-ray and digital release date with post-pandemic home media schedules being heavily impacted by success. Big films like Top Gun Maverick and Spider-Man: No Way Home had much bigger gaps between when they come out in cinemas and home entertainment.
AdvertisementThe story for Black Adam focuses on the titular character, or Teth-Adam as he’s known (played by Johnson), who is given his powers thousands of years ago when his son sacrificed himself to save his father. However, he was imprisoned and has been out of action since then.
When he wakes up in the modern world, he picks up where he left off with his no nonsense approach to justice. That puts him on a collision course with the Justice Society of America, who try to bring him around to their way of thinking, to no avail.
UK DVD, Blu-ray and digital release date
AdvertisementThe Black Adam UK DVD, Blu-ray and digital release date has now been confirmed for Monday the 16th January 2022. It came out in cinemas on the 21st October 2022, but if you’re desperate to watch it from the comfort of your own home it’s already available through Home Premier.
The early access digital release has landed in time for Christmas 2022, which will be your first opportunity to either rent or buy the move at home. This will be a fairly pricey option at around £15.99 for rental in the UK, and £19.99 to buy.
While it would probably be good for home media sales for the DVD, Blu-ray and 4K versions of Black Adam to arrive in time for the big gift giving season, it was a bit too close to the cinema release. That would have been less than two months between cinema and home entertainment, which is pretty unheard of, so you’ll have to wait until January 2023 to own own of the physical formats.
This should mean that the standard (less expensive) digital version of the film will go on to come out a little ahead of the DVD and Blu-ray. That would see the release date taking place just after the New Year if the schedule doesn’t get changed before then.
North America release date
We’re expecting a similar Blu-ray and 4K release date for Black Adam to the UK, with the potential for it to hit the shelves a week or so earlier. Again, there’s a early access digital release in North America that has already arrived in time for the holidays.
