With the air date of the first episode looming like an army of Cyberman, the BBC has finally released the full length trailer for Dr Who Series 8 to give us a good look at what to expect from the first Peter Capaldi led episodes. From what we’ve seen it looks like it’s going to be an action packed series of epic sci-fi proportions with more than a few explosive episodes to look forward to.
The trailer gives a lot of sneak peaks on what to expect from Series 8, building on the confused new Doctor’s reveal at the end of the Christmas 2013 special, The Day Of The Doctor. While we already knew that the new Doctor would be starting out with some memory loss and an inability to drive the Tardis, the full length trailer confirms what we saw in the teaser, that the Tardis would be suffering some pretty significant damage in the new series.
The trailer also gives us a preview of the baddies we can expect from the 2014/15 episodes, and not surprisingly the Darleks are front and centre in the line of nasties waiting to give Capaldi a hard time when he pulls on his black coat this August. Added to that is the equally inevitable Cybermen, along with a few random foes, including what looks like a a thirty foot tall Tyrannosaurus Rex attacking London’s Houses Of Parliament.
One area that isn’t covered by the trailer is the long list of guest stars that have been confirmed for Doctor Who Series 8 already. With the likes of Frank Skinner and Hermione Norris confirmed in May and Ben Miller announced as one of the villains we can expect to see in on the first few episodes back in April, we’re still none the wiser about what characters they’ll be playing and what they’ll look like, so there’s still a fair few surprises in store for fans.
The new series will be airing on the 23rd August 2014, so there’s little over a month from the full length trailer’s launch on the 13th July during the half time break of the World Cup final for even more anticipation to build. If all of that isn’t excitement enough for Whovians, the BBC has also confirmed a couple more guest stars for the new series in comedy actors Michelle Gomez, who will be playing the Gatekeeper of the Nethersphere, and Sanjeev Bhaskar, who’s character is yet to be announced.
You can check out the full length trailer for yourself below to get a look at what’s likely to be coming down the time-travelling storyline over the next few months. If you’re not lucky enough to involved in the fun of the Dr Who world tour that will be taking place in August in the build up to the live to air date of episode 1 then surely the trailer will be a pretty decent consolation prize.
