Babylon age rating, UK release date & more

Babylon UK release date, age rating certificate latest

Margot Robbie and Brad Pitt will be teaming up again with the Babylon UK release date just in (full details below). Here’s everything you need to know about the film, including the story, cast, age rating certificate and runtime.

This time around they’ll be working with yet another acclaimed writer and director, Damien Chazelle, following their brilliant work with Quentin Tarantino in Once Upon A Time In Hollywood. The big screen powerhouses didn’t have a great deal of screen time together last time around and it looks like that might be the case again with Babylon.

Chazelle will be looking to follow up on the success of Whiplash, 10, Cloverfield Lane, First Man and La La Land. Combined, his films have already won a total of 10 Academy Awards and by the look of the trailer for Babylon he could be on for more.

Story

The story follows a young Mexican American actor called Manny Torres (Diego Calva) who tries to break his way into the limelight of Hollywood during the 1920s. The film industry is in a huge transition phase from silent movie to talkies, so it seems like the opportunities are ripe for the picking.

He starts as an assistant and goes on to befriend a Hollywood starlet (Margot Robbie) and gets overrun by the excess and depravity all around him. Things are clearly going to get fairly dark before the end credits run, which will make Babylon yet another new direction to add to his impressive credits.

Cast

Diego Calva leads the Babylon cast as Manny and he’ll be joined by Margot Robbie as the starlet and Brad Pitt as a seasoned and wayward veteran of the Hollywood movie scene. They’ll be joined by Toby Maguire in his latest role since returning as Spider-Man in No Way Home, as well as Jean Smart (Youth In Revolt, Designing Women) and Olivia Wilde (Don’t Worry Darling), who both look impressive in the trailer.

The cast also features Jovan Adepo, Li Jun Li, Katherine Waterston (Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore) and Flea (Obi-Wan Kenobi, Toy Story 4). We’ll update you more details on the cast when they’re confirmed.

Babylon UK release date

Initially, the official Babylon UK release date was a little grey around the edges, but it went on to be confirmed for Friday the 20th January 2023. The comedy drama came out on the 25th December 2022 in select theatres in North America before getting a general release on the 6th January 2023, so either way you look at it we were a little behind in the UK.

We were optimistic to begin with expecting things to go a similar way over here as in the US with the latter date in the very least. There aren’t as many cinemas in Britain as there are in America, so having a select theatres approach doesn’t work as well over here. Instead, they’ve gone for later in January, which was a bit disappointing.

The release date should mean that we can expect the DVD, Blu-ray and general digital formats to possibly come out just in time for Easter 2023 in the UK. However, with early access digital, you might be able to catch is on Home Premier from as early as late February, depending on Babylon’s success at the box office over here.

Age rating certificate

Despite the fact that the official release date in the UK was still a way off, the age rating certificate was announced as an 18 around the time it came out in the States. It’s an older certification than expected looking at Chavelle’s previous work, but when you look at the trailer there’s definitely an element of Quentin Tarantino about it.

Whiplash was a 15, but clearly Babylon takes things up a level to give it the 18 age rating in the UK and an R certificate in North America. There’s a good amount of nudity, drugs use and violence in the trailer, which is what has clearly pushed things up.

There are similarities to Once Upon A Time in Hollywood, which was given an 18 certificate over here. That has gone on to be case here too, so it’s going to be interesting to see how it works out on the big screen when it gets its release in January.

Runtime

You can see from the trailer that there’s a lot going on in Babylon, which appears to have a number of different stages for the story progression. As a result, it has a long runtime of 3 hours and 9 minutes.

It’s event longer than Once Upon A Time in Hollywood, which had a runtime of 2 hours 42 minutes, so we’re nearly up to Titanic levels.
