Audrey Hepburn was style incarnate. Despite her unfortunate stick thin figure, she managed to craft a look that was elegant, effortless and timeless. She played some of the most stunning characters in the history of cinema and wore some of the most stylish dresses too. The best of these have recently gone on display at Sotheby’s in Paris, but will also be showcased at La Galleria (Royal Opera Arcade, Pall Mall, London) on the 6, 7 & 8 December 2009 before being auctioned for charity.
For anyone that has never seen or heard of Audrey Hepburn, watch the trailer for Breakfast at Tiffany’s. She’s flawless in every scene. The other cool thing about Breakfast at Tiffany’s is that it’s go George Peppard in it too – aka Hannibal from the A-Team.
Sadly, Audrey Hepburn died in 1993 and George Peppard in 1994, but luckily they’re work (and dresses) live on. I think I’ve just inspired myself to watch “Roman Holiday” and some classic A-Team on the weekend. The one where they get hired by someone who can’t afford to pay for their services to stop local tyrants, but decide to help out anyway. Remember, they get locked up, but manage to find lots of machinary and tools to put together a plan to escape and stop the baddies. It’s the one where Hannibal says “I love it when a plan comes together” and B.A. gets mad at Murdoch for being a “crazy fool”. It’s a classic.
Anyway, the auction of Audrey Hepburn’s dresses will donate half of the proceeds to UNISEF and the Audrey Hepburn Children’s Fund. Hopefully, rich folk everywhere will turn up in droves with either large brief cases, deep pockets or platinum cards (the swines) and spend loads.
