Arthur Miller is widely regarded as one of the 20th Century’s greatest playwright, and his story of the effects of Kristallnacht (the night of broken glass), the anti-Semitic attacks that swept throughout Nazi-Germany and parts of Austria between 9th to 10th November 1938, is about to open at the Tricycle Theatre, Kilburn High Road.
Broken Glass follows Phillip and his wife Sylvia from their New York apartment as they come to terms with the reality of the events in Germany. When Philip asks psychiatrist, Dr. Harry Hyman, to help his wife deal with the paralysis that she suffered as a result of reading an article about Kristallnacht, problems with their relationship start to fracture on the surface of their lives.
Shakespearian actor and Laurence Oliver award winner Anthony Sher leads the cast, which includes Emily Bruni, Lucy Cohu, Nigel Lindsay, Madeleine Potter and Brian Protheroe.
Arthur Millar’s Broken Glass opens at the Tricycle Theatre on Thursday 30th September and runs through to the 27th November 2010 with tickets ranging from £12, £18 and £22. Guilt, tragedy, love and the effects of injustice run throughout the play with typical Miller drama.
