The Libertines, the band that sang “Don’t look back into the sun”, are fusing together maybe one last time for the Reading and Leads festivals, along with headliners Arcade Fire. Rumour is that it’s a cool £1.5 million that they’ll be getting for their efforts on stage for the two gigs.
In terms of the future of the band after the festival, there is talk of the gigs being The Libertines’ only worldwide performances. However, other reports from The Sun imply that they will contemplate more dates and new material if the shows go well. With drugs being the big reason for the bands collapse in 2004, there’s no doubt that they’ll be a part of the decision making process for future work.
The news comes at the same time as the announcement of Arcade Fire as the headline act for Reading on the Saturday night and Friday night at Leeds. The band have promised to feature material from their long awaited third album at the festival dates. With the sheer brilliance of Neighbourhood and Neon Bible to back it all up, the headline set is likely to be immense.
As of today (30th March 2010) camping tickets for Reading are sold out, but camping at Leeds and all one day tickets are still available. Sadly, I have already spent all my mulla on the Isle of White Festival, but if i could afford, I’d go for Saturday night at Reading. The Libertines followed by Arcade Fire will be one of the best nights of the summer.
