It’s been a while since the Mighty Boosh tours took Noel Fielding’s surreal comedy mix on the road and while the Boosh is now no more and Fielding is sans one Julian Barratt he’s still keeping the dream alive with his upcoming winter 2014 tour dates entitled, An Evening With Noel Fielding. It’s definitely not the most imaginative title for a stand-up comedy tour, which is sort of odd for the guy that invented Fantasy Man, but we’re assuming that it’s some king of reverse rotating jibe or self deprecating joke between Noel and his brother Michael (Naboo from the Mighty Boosh / Smooth from Noel Fielding’s Luxury Comedy), but the it could just be that he got struck with Fantasy Block when coming up with the title.
Either way, An Evening With Noel Fielding is set to get underway on the 20th October 2014 at the G Live Guildford before moving on up to Scotland on the on the 22nd October for a show at the Alhambra in Dunfermline, a Wild West themed corral with gun fighting, Scottish cattle rustling and wild haggis rides (not 100% sure on the Wild West theme element, to be honest, but it sounds like it could be plausible, although the fact that it’s probably named after the palace complex in Grenada, Spain does little to verify this). The dates runs through the rest of October and November with shows in Sheffield, York, Bristol, Llandudno, Manchester, Birmingham and Cardiff before finishing up on the 6th December 2014 at the clinically efficient Victoria Hall in the wonder zone of Stoke-On-Trent and on the 8th at the O2 Academy Brixton, London.
The shows are described as a magical miracle mix (disclaimer: no miracles will actually be performed, unless Dondylion is killed and reincarnated once again) of Noel’s surrealist stand up comedy and random musical innovation, blending events of the past with elements of the present day to make something not quite as good as either, but unique in its own right. There’s also talk of something called “live animation”, which could be anything from a giant Joey Ramone stop-motion figurine being moved around plaster one set incrementally throughout the night, to Noel drawing still after still of Julian Barrett choosing blazers on a Mr Ben style trip to the local shopping centre.
Legendary characters from the Mighty Boosh and Luxury Comedy back catalogue will also be putting in appearances throughout the show, giving Noel an opportunity to work on his quick change skills once again. Characters that have been confirmed include The Moon and Fantasy Man, but we’ll be holding out hope for the addition of Dondylion, The Hitcher, Paul Panfer (Basoo!) and Roy Circles just to see Fielding’s skills tested to the limits of control.
Noel won’t be taking to the stage alone though as he’ll also have Michael Fielding on board for the psychedelic mystery tour, as well as Tom Meeten (who you’ll recognise as Andy Warhol and Big Chief Woolabum Boomalackaway). Coming on the back of Noel Fielding’s Luxury Comedy Series 2, which they all starred in together, they should be up to a white heat level of gig readiness, so the tour could be class.
