Michael Bay is about to get a bit serious with the upcoming UK release date for his action-packed thriller, Ambulance, so here’s what you need to know about the movie, including the age rating in our parents guide section below. There’s no T.U.R.T.L.E power and Optimus Prime is nowhere to be seen, but the film isn’t quite what it sounds like it’s going to be either.
This is not a day in the life of an ambulance driver in LA with all of the gritty realities that they face. Instead, it’s a getaway heist movie with the kind of elongated chase sequence that was last seen in Speed. It starts out with war vet William Sharp hitting up his adopted brother Danny for a loan to pay for his wife’s life-saving surgery.
AdvertisementThe counter offer is a bank job that will net them $31 million, but when things go way way sideways, the duo find themselves in a race with the law to get away. Their escape plan sees them taking an emergency medical technician called Cam Thompson and the LAPD officer that they shot hostage inside the ambulance, so while Danny drives and points the gun Will and Cam are in the back trying to save the severely injured officer.
Cast
The Ambulance cast is led by Jake Gyllenhaal (Spider-Man Far From Home) as Danny and Yahya Abdul-Manteen II (The Matrix Resurrections), along with Eiza González (Godzilla vs. Kong) as Cam. Colin Woodell plays the police officer in the back and the operation to bring the two men on the run to justice is led by Gary Dillahunt (12 Years a Slave). The cast is rounded off by Moses Ingram (Obi-Wan Kenobi), who plays Danny’s wife.

Ambulance UK release date
As things stand, the Ambulance UK release date has been set for Friday the 25th March 2022, but there has been a lot of movement for dates in the movie industry with another tough start to the year. It was previously scheduled to come out on the 18th February, but it appears to have been put back due to the surge in the COVID-19 pandemic.
If the UK release date stays as late March then it will have competition at the box office from Daniel Radcliff, Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum action comedy, The Lost City, which is due out on the same day. It should also have the residual impact of Downton Abbey: A New Era, out on the big screen a week earlier, and later in its run there will be Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore on the 8th April.
AdvertisementHowever, if you’re based in North America, the film won’t be coming out until the 8th April 2022, so you’ll have a two week wait from the UK release. Obviously, there’s a lot of change around at the moment, so we’ll keep things as updated as possible here to give you the latest information on when the film will be coming out on both sides of the Atlantic.
With a March release, the DVD, Blu-ray and digital formats for the film should arrive around June/July for both the UK and North America.

Age rating and parents guide
While the official Ambulance age rating hasn’t been confirmed as of yet by the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) in the UK, there’s a lot we can take from the trailer. In general, crime thrillers tend to either get a 12 certification or a 15, but with the more serious nature of the film and the scenes of blood in the trailer, it looks likely to be the latter.

Speed picked up a 15 certification, for example, and if you look at more recent comparable films like Baby Driver (which also starred Eiza González) it was a similar case. Michael Bay’s last film, 6 Underground, was a 15 too and it was a similar situation for Yahya Abdul-Manteen II with The Matrix Resurrections and Jake Gyllenhaal with The Guilty. If it does come out with a 15 certificate in the UK that usually equates to an R rating in North America.
From a parents guide point of view, there’s going to be violence, gun fights, wild car chases, blood and threat to consider. We’ll update you on the language a little closer to the release date, but crime thrillers usually have at least a little to take into account.
As ever, we’ll update you with more details on the age rating for the move as they get confirmed. You can also check out our movie news section to keep tabs on the latest upcoming films, or visit the official Ambulance movie website at https://www.ambulance.movie/.
Runtime
As with the age rating, the runtime for the Ambulance movie will be confirmed closer to the release date, but with 6 Underground clocking in at a little over 2 hours that acts as a pretty good ball park figure for Michael Bay’s latest film.
