It’s difficult to write about death in any circumstances. Writing about the apparent suicide of a much admired fashion designer like Alexander McQueen is particularly tough.
However, no matter what I write here, the fact remains that a significant figure in the fashion world is no longer here to push the boundaries of design.
On the 11th February, his body was taken from his home in London, and by the end of the day the fashion world was filled with tributes for the former four time British Designer of the Year.
I guess all that remains is to remember the strength of his work and to accept the fragility of his character.
From humble beginnings in the East End of London, to extraordinary achievements as the avante-garde ‘hooligan’, Alexander McQueen’s legacy will continue to inspire new designers.
