Godzilla (2014) release date and trailer – Rhhhaaiahhhh

Godzilla (2014) movie artworkImagine a world in which a giant dinosaur-like creature awakens and rises from the depths of the sea, takes Manhatten as its home, scatters all humanity in its wake and turns out to be completely impervious to our most advanced and destructive weaponry! That’s the cool storyline that the trailer for Godzilla (2014) implies, but sadly the reality of what writers Max Borenstein and David Callaham have created for the reboot of the Japanese monster movie franchise is far from that.

It had its release date this spring (2014), and for anyone that hasn’t seen it as of yet, here are the details, along with the very cool trailer, to give you more of an idea of what to expect. However, you might want to read our Godzilla (2014) review to get more of a feel for how to pitch your expectations.

The story itself seemed as though it couldn’t be much of a surprise to anyone, as we’ve all seen at least one Godzilla movie over the years, however, there were at least a couple of additions that you’re probably not expecting. It’s an epic blockbuster release and with the latest CGI and movie techniques, coupled with a more serious outlook and human interest storyline, the 2014 incarnation was tipped to be one of the most impressive to-date, but we’ll leave that for you to decide for yourself.

The first Godzilla movie was created in 1954 by Japanese filmmakers, Tomoyuki Tanaka, Ishiro Honda and Eiji Tsubaraya and went on to shock the world, but in Godzilla (2014) we get a contemporary reminder of the classic monster movie with an awe inspiring visual production.

The release date for the film was on the 14th May 2014, and it’s already gone on to be one of the spring’s biggest blockbusters. With the very cool teaser trailer (below) doing the rounds, anticipation started to build for the movie very early on. Though it was filmed in 2D it also went on general released in 3D, but you hardly really notice the effect, so we’d probably advise going with the less expensive option.

The story is a simple one, a strange and monstrous creature, which is known to the military and governments of the world as Godzilla, appears out of the depths of the ocean as more remnants from his own larger-than-life era return from hybernation. All attempts to stop, kill and obliterate the monsters result in absolute failure thanks to its radioactive core, mega-strength and thick skin, so the US forces have to deploy a plan to bring it down somehow, or face a new age of terror and destruction.

Centering on the Brody family as the big beast troubles start to develop, it’s a story that spans a generation as it takes time for the situation to come to a head. It’s refreshing for the story of a film like this to give quite so much attention to the people that are in the heart of the storm of the events, as well as making it more than a fleeting attack.

The cast is brilliantly left field, with Breaking Bad and Malcolm in the Middle star, Bryan Cranston, as Joe Brody, an engineer that becomes obsessed with the developing troubles of the oversized problem, as well as Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Nowhere Boy, Kick Ass, Kick Ass 2) as his son, Lieutenant Ford Brody, who’s one of the soldiers sent in to face off against the beast. The younger, and less well-known, Olsen sister, Elizabeth, play’s Ford’s wife, Elle, and Juliette Binoche has been cast as Joe’s wife, Sandra. Ken Watanabe (Inception) also plays a significant part in the film as the scientist running the government organisation, called Monarch, that’s tasked with monitoring the menace.

Check out the teaser trailer below to get your first fleeting glimpses of Godzilla (2014) in action. It doesn’t pull any punches, so if you haven’t seen the film yet, get set for a brutal kaiju (Japanese for “strange creature”) fire fight, roller coaster of full on proportions, but also prepare yourself for less smarts than you might expect.
