PS4 launch games preview

Destiny PS4Following hot on the heels of the recent announcement and pre-order of the Sony PlayStation 4, here’s a full run down of the first games that will be released with the new console. We’ve listed then in order of which games we’re most excited about, but feel free to let us know if you think we should switch things around.

Destiny

It was a toss up for the #1 & 2 spots, but Destiny just about edges it over Watch_Dogs for us. Made by the Halo game gurus at Bungie, it takes a first person shooter adventure and gives it stars, planets and scary ass aliens to deal with. It sounds like an absolute mammoth title with more room to manoeuvre than you could possibly imagine. The visuals look stunning, but we won’t know how much of a step forward they are until we get to see some real-time gameplay.

The free roam capability that the Bungie guys are talking about will be interesting to see in action. It’s set to be a feature of our top two games to look forward to and could be one of the defining characteristics of PlayStation 4 gaming.

Watch_Dogs

This game looks like a whole new concept in computer gaming, giving you free reign over the entirety of Chicago. You control a system hacking super genius vigilante who uses his tech wizardry and brutal style of revenge to bring order to the city and exact retribution from the people that have wronged him. Like a good guy GTA with Gary McKinnon inspired mad skills, Watch_Dogs is another exciting release from the guys at Ubisoft, looking like it could be a contender for game of the year when it’s released with the PS4.

Ubisoft has also announced that there will be a Watch Dogs movie coming soon to accompany the game.

Kill Zone Shadow Fall

Kill Zone Shadow Fall picks up thirty years after the events of the third installment of the game. With the Helghast and the Vektans separated by a Berlin style wall in a massive futuristic city you take on the role of Shadow Marshall and the bid to keep the peace in a kill zone.

DriveClub

DriveClub looks like it plans to takes race gaming to the next level with the type of hyper-realism you’d expect from an eighth generation games console. It’s hard to take too much from the short, video scene looking action in the trailer below, but if the graphics of the gameplay looks anything like that and the gameplay is slicker than a beach babe’s bum crack then expect this to be on your wish list for launch day.

Second Son

Again it’s hard to know what to expect from Second Son based on the trailer, so it’s a tough one to get excited about. The low-down is that you play a guy with a superpower in a similar vain to Heroes, in a world that has turned against its supers.

Knack

Knack is a family fun 3D platform adventure that put you in control of the title character who’s been invented to save the world from an alien threat. With the power to absorb debris to grow to extraordinary sizes, you use the world around you to bulk up and take down the baddies.

The Witness

On the strength of the trailer below, The Witness is the most unfathomable game set for release on the PS4. It looks like it still might be in the early stages of development, so it could turn into something impressive, but at the moment it doesn’t look all that inspiring in terms of both gameplay and graphics (the music is a little ropey too). It’s set on a mysterious island and you’ll need to unlock all of the puzzles to get to the heart of the situation. We expect The Witness to develop in the coming months, so stay tuned.
